Confetti Wishes: Birthday Wishes Mini Bag

Birthday Wishes Mini Bag with Confetti Wishes Paper

Birthday Wishes Bag 1a.jpg

This adorable mini bag was created with the Confetti Wishes Paper Packet and the “Lovely Birthday” stamp set. The bag itself was made from only 1 sheet of 12″ x 12″ Confetti Wishes patterned paper! It may look like more, but remember, CTMH patterned papers are double-sided, which means that the purple confetti paper and the striped paper that you see are 2 sides to the same sheet of paper!

Okay, you think that you got me on the sentiment strip on the top…. you know, the one that reads, “The Presents,” “The Cake,” “The Party”? Surely, that must have come from somewhere else? Nope! That’s the zip strip from the top of the 12″ x 12″ piece of patterned paper! I simply cut it off the paper, cut it in half, and adhered the pieces to the front and back of the bag.

Take a closer look at the back, side, and another front view of the mini bag…

I used super strong tape runner glue for an instant bond to hold the project together. The Black Striped Twill Ribbon was used as the handles and was attached with Glue Dots – 2 large dots per each side of handle. Although I wouldn’t recommend putting anything overly heavy in this bag, it is sturdy enough for lighter items. To make the handles even stronger, you could always punch holes in the top and thread them through for a super strong hold.

For the artwork on the front, I used the “Lovely Birthday” stamp set to stamp the leaves in Lagoon ink and the sentiment in Thistle ink. They were stamped onto White Daisy cardstock and mounted about 3/4 of the way onto Lagoon cardstock.

The surrounding flowers were stamped in Canary, Pixie, and Thistle inks onto White Daisy cardstock. I fussy cut them out, adhered a couple of them to the bag, and slightly popped the other 2 off the bag with Thin Foam Tape. To finish it off, I used Gold Shimmer Trim and Gold Sequins!

Small Ribbon Storage

Hello crafty friends! Today I am over at the Craft Storage Ideas (CSI) website with a guest post about small ribbon storage. The picture above is my own solution for storing small pieces of leftover ribbon… wind them around tongue depressors (jumbo craft sticks)! Flashback Friday #10: Happy “Owl’oween Card

Happy Owloween 3a.JPG

Welcome to Flashback Friday! Today I am featuring a retired My Reflections paper packet called Hooligans. Since the August Stamp of the Month is Halloween-themed, I thought that these papers would work perfectly with this Halloween owl!

This 5.5″ x 4.25″ card was made with a White Daisy cardstock base and various pieces of patterned paper from the Hooligans packet. The color palette for this card was: Gypsy (purple), Pear (green), Sunset (Orange), Lagoon (blue), Black, and White Daisy.

Happy Owloween 2a.JPG

The stamp set used for this project is the August featured Stamp of the Month, “What a Hoot.”  The “Happy ‘Owl’oween” sentiment was stamped in black ink and then colored in with orange and green markers. The owl was stamped in different components and then paper pieced together.

This particular owl did not come with any feet, whereas the other owl in this set came with a set of long legs and feet. Wanting my owl to have feet, I used the masking technique and stamped just the feet from the other owl onto this little guy.

I used thin foam tape to pop up the wings and mask slightly, and regular foam tape to pop up the pumpkin even more. I added a little bit of crosshatching to the lower portion of the owl’s body to break up some of the purple. The green strip at the top of the card was stamped with various designs from the stamp set. The orange ribbon is also retired from CTMH.

This is such a cute stamp set! You can own this for only $5 with your qualifying purchase of $50. Please go HERE for more information, or to purchase.

Altered Clipboards

I have an event coming up in July (I’ll reveal what/where it is once it is completely official!). One thing that I love to do at any kind of event is have a door prize! Not only does giving away something for free attract people to my booth, but it also makes me feel good to give things away and share in the excitement of the winner!

But before I can pick a winner, I first need to have people fill out an entry form. And when filling out a form, it’s always nice to have a hard surface to write on. Well, as a paper crafter, I can’t just hand someone a boring old clipboard to write on, can I? Enter… the altered clipboards.

I fancied up four Dollar Store clipboards, to make them a little more pleasing to the eye. While I could have definitely added a lot more elements, remember that these boards were designed to actually be used; therefore, any bulky 3-D items would make them virtually impossible to write on. I kept them as flat as I could, while still adding some color and pizazz!

Here is an owl clipboard made with the Lollydoodle papers and stickers:
And another owl board (owls are VERY trendy right now), made with different patterned papers from the Lollydoodle packet and sticker sheets:
A bird-themed board made with the Skylark papers and hand-stamped elements:
An finally, an outdoorsy board made with the Timberline papers and stickers:
All of the boards were sealed with matte Mod Podge glue/sealant, and adorned with ribbons and/or textiles. Unfortunately, CTMH doesn’t carry Mod Podge (which I use in boatloads!), but you can find it here:

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to mention that the 2014 Close To My Heart Retiring Product List just came out yesterday. That means that many of your favorite products (and there are a lot on the list) may be gone even sooner.

It’s always sad to see some of my favorite products retire, but on the other hand, I love how CTMH keeps things fresh, current, and on trend with new products.
